Description

Hills Ahead shows your car trip from the side. Where you started is on the left, where you're going is on the right, and the road goes up and down with the actual terrain. A little car moves along it as you drive, so kids in the back can see how far they've come and how much is left without reading a map. It isn't a navigation app. The driver keeps using their usual maps. Hills Ahead is for everyone else in the car. ON THE ROAD • The scene is drawn from your route: the hills and mountains you're driving through, the sky for the time of day, and rain, snow or fog from the forecast. • Parks, lakes, rivers, forts and peaks along the way show up as pins. Tap one for its name and a fact to read out loud, like "It's 726 feet tall, as tall as 2 Statues of Liberty stacked up!" • Follow the car up close, or zoom out to the whole trip. Hold anywhere on the road to see how high it is, which mile it's at and when you'll get there. FOR KIDS IN THE BACK • Stickers for things that happen on the drive: a new state, the Continental Divide, the Mississippi, a new time zone, a mile above sea level, riding after dark, a 100-mile trip. • Every mile is a point. Points unlock new vehicles, worlds, trails behind the car and sticker book covers, plus three theme packs: Dino Valley, Sweet Street and Seaside. Canyon Country comes with the app. • Road games made from your route: license plates, route bingo, the alphabet game, and counting cows, horses and red cars. A few minutes before a river, a bridge, a state line or a summit, Spot It First asks who will see it first. FOR THE GROWN-UPS • Percent done, time and miles left, the next stop and your arrival time, all on one screen. • A heads-up when rain or snow is ahead, and the forecast for where you're going at the time you'll get there. • Search for a city, an address or a business to plan a trip, with up to eight stops on the way. Or paste a link to a place or directions from Google Maps. • Saved trips come first, because most families drive the same few routes. • Add up to six riders' names for the games. Pick light, dark, or a look that follows the sky outside. Miles or kilometers. BUILT FOR THE CAR • Keeps following the trip with the screen off. • Take a different road and it works out the new route by itself. • Saved trips open with no signal. Starting a new trip needs a connection. • Works on iPhone and iPad, in portrait or landscape. PAY ONCE No ads, no accounts, no subscription, nothing to buy inside the app. Everything past the starter set is earned by riding. Stickers, license plates and the state map cover the United States. Hills Ahead uses your location to show the car on the trip, including with the screen off. The trip's start, stops and end are sent to our server to get the route, landmarks and weather. We don't sell your data and there's no account to make.
