Kolina: Percussion Synthesizer

Kolina is a semi-modular percussion synthesizer for iPhone and iPad. Turn the knobs on a photoreal 3D panel, patch cables between 25 jacks, and build anything from booming kicks and snappy toms to metallic clangs, zaps and evolving sequences. If you have ever wanted to get your hands on one of the classic semi-modular analog drum synths, you will feel right at home: two VCOs with a shared pitch envelope, white noise, a resonant transistor-ladder filter, a punchy VCA and a sequencer with pitch and velocity on every step. No cables needed to start playing. Patch some in to take the sound somewhere new. SOUND ENGINE • Two VCOs with square and triangle waves, a shared pitch envelope and bipolar envelope amounts • VCO 1 to VCO 2 FM and hard sync for metallic, clangy and noisy tones • White noise, or any signal patched into EXT AUDIO • 4-pole transistor-ladder filter with low-pass and high-pass modes, and resonance that rings on its own • Filter and amp envelopes from short clicks to long, slow decays • Analog character: every instance has its own slightly different components, like two units of the same hardware • The whole engine runs oversampled to keep the top end clean SEQUENCER • Pitch and velocity on every step, any length from 1 to 16 steps • Tempo from very slow all the way up to audio rate • RUN/STOP, RESET, ADVANCE and TRIGGER buttons • Follows your DAW's tempo and transport, or MIDI clock with Start, Stop, Continue and Song Position, at 1/8, 1/16 or 1/32 notes PATCH BAY • 15 inputs and 10 outputs: envelopes, oscillators, trigger, velocity, pitch and more • The KB output turns MIDI notes and pitch bend into pitch control • Drag from jack to jack to patch a cable, pull a plug to remove it MADE TO PLAY • Orbit and zoom the 3D panel, or switch to a flat view for fast playing • Lock the view while you perform • Random turns every knob and flips every switch for instant new sounds, and leaves volume, tempo and sync alone • Built-in help: tap any knob, switch or jack to see what it does • Save your sounds as patches, and open or export them as .aupreset files • Your session is saved automatically FITS YOUR SETUP • AUv3 instrument for Logic Pro, GarageBand and other Audio Unit hosts on iPhone and iPad, with stereo or mono output • Play it from MIDI keyboards and controllers, including Bluetooth MIDI on iPhone and iPad • Other apps can send MIDI straight to Kolina
