Description
Up&Down is a golf caddie that plays your shot out before it calls it. It flies the shot through today's wind and air, and rolls it over the hole's own ground, measured from the air by laser. It tries every club, swing and shape you can hit, a few hundred times each, at your handicap. Then it calls the play that takes the fewest strokes to finish the hole: the club, how hard to swing, what shape to hit, and where to start it.
One price. No subscription, no account, no ads, and no sensors to buy.
It's for any golfer who plays US courses. The reasons come in plain words, with the exact numbers underneath for keen golfers.
What only Up&Down does
• Shows the call on a 3D model of the real hole, with where a few hundred shots like it would finish.
• Weighs going for the green against laying up, or carrying the water against playing short, and says what each costs in strokes.
• Plays trees the way you would: over, under or around them, or out sideways when that's best. It says how many shots the trees would stop.
• Works out every putt from the green's measured slopes: how hard to hit it, and where to start it.
• Says why, in plain words. Tap any underlined word to see what it means.
It learns your game
• Say how far you carry one club, and it fills in the rest of your bag.
• Play rounds with it, and it learns how far you really hit each club, which way your shots tend to go, and what you really score. Every call after that is played your way, aimed for where your shots really go.
• Every round is kept, shot by shot. Watch each shot again, see what it cost, and what to work on. Each round shows your strokes gained off the tee, on approaches, in the short game and putting.
Know a course before you get there
• Play any US course drawn on OpenStreetMap. Find one near you, or search by name, and the app builds it on the spot.
• Walk every hole from home. See its length, its trouble, and the call from the tee.
• Get every hole ready before you go, on Wi-Fi the night before, so each one is there when you reach it.
On the course
• Walk to your ball and tap I'm at my ball: GPS brings the ball to you, and you drag it to the exact spot.
• See how far each shot plays, with the wind, the air and the slope counted.
• Say where today's flag is, and the call plays to it.
• Double-tap to see the slopes around your ball, on the green or off it: lights run downhill along a grid, faster where it's steeper.
• Keep score as you play.
A hole the map is missing?
• Draw it on the aerial photo: the tee, the green, any bend, the fairway, bunkers and water. Add the streams and trees the map leaves out, and the call plays around them.
• Share the holes you've drawn as a file. Your playing partners open it and play the same holes.
Your rounds stay on your phone. There's no account to make, and no server of ours to send them to.
