Description
Creaky Hinge is built for iPhone Duo: it turns the phone's hinge into the hinge of whatever is on screen. Pick one of five scenes, then open or close the phone. An old door swings, a treasure chest lifts its lid, a flip lighter catches, a spellbook opens its cover, an accordion draws its bellows, and each answers the fold with its own recordings.
Every scene is drawn around the fold. The door, the spellbook and the accordion turn on the same line the phone bends on; the chest and the lighter stand in the middle of the cover screen, or of the unfolded screen's right half. A Scenes button beside the Sound toggle opens a carousel of them, and the app remembers the one you picked.
The wooden door hangs in a stone wall beside a candle lantern and swings from shut at 0° to flat against the wall at 180°. Open it slowly and it groans low and loud; move quickly and it thins to a faint squeak; stop, and it goes quiet. Choose an old door, a squeaky gate or a cellar door.
The treasure chest stands on a moonlit beach. Opening the phone lifts the lid on coins, gems and a goblet in a growing gold glow; the coins jingle when the lid reaches the top, and it slams shut. Its shine is Fairy dust or Magic sparkle.
The flip lighter sits on a walnut desk. Past 100° the lid clinks, sparks fly off the wheel and a flame lights the scene. It dwindles as you close the phone and goes out with a clack. The flame is Steady or Flickering.
The spellbook floats in a starry sky with its spine on the fold. Its pages fan out and rustle, more often the faster you fold; laid flat, its runes light up with a chime, and it thumps when you shut it. The pages are Parchment or Heavy tome.
The accordion plays as you fold, louder the faster you move, with Two chords or Four chords.
With vibration on, the Taptic Engine buzzes along with the door's creak and knocks when any scene reaches either end. Sound and vibration have separate switches.
If your iPhone doesn't fold, the app says so on screen and you move each scene with your finger instead. With VoiceOver, swipe up or down on a scene to open or close it.
You pay for it once: there are no ads and no in-app purchases. It needs no account, works offline and does not track you. It sends only usage statistics that are not linked to you, and you can turn them off in its settings. Requires iOS 27.1. Available in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Russian.
