Description
Tonic is an ad-free instrument tuner that is also a pretty darn good music practice companion. It is priced once and yours to keep. No subscriptions, no ads, no account, no data collection. Everything runs on your device and works fully offline. I think that's the way it should be.
So if you just want a good tuner, with all of the tunings, and a practice reference/chord finder/music theory companion without creating an account, paying for a subscription, paying for upgrades, trying to close out pesky ads, or connecting your social media, this is for you. I wanted it myself, so I built it for myself, and maybe you want it as well.
What's included:
TUNER
Chromatic tuner
Guitar (7 tunings, plus 7-, 8-, and 12-string), Bass (5 tunings), Ukulele, Mandolin, Violin, Banjo, and a dedicated Vocals mode. Every tuning unlocked, nothing gated behind a paywall
Create and save your own custom guitar tunings
All-strings view to check every string at a glance, or single-note focus
Reference tone (drone) to tune by ear
Adjustable reference pitch (A4, for orchestral players who tune away from 440Hz)
Adjustable mic sensitivity for noisy rooms or quiet instruments
Optional haptic feedback the moment you're in tune
METRONOME
Sample-accurate timing, scheduled through the audio engine.
KEY/CHORD FINDER (Beta)
Listens live and identifies the key and chord you're playing
Start/stop control with a scrollable chart of every chord played, so you can plot out a song and play along
Works best on clean, single-instrument audio, like any chroma-based chord recognizer
RECORDER/LOOPER
Record practice takes or song ideas, with a metronome guide click while you record
History with folders and search
Loop a specific section of a recording to drill a tricky passage
Run offline chord/key analysis on any saved recording
SONGS
Build a chord progression by key and tempo, then save it with lyrics or notes - a real sketchpad for songwriting, not just a scratch pad
EAR TRAINING
Interval and chord-quality recognition drills; a practice tool to help with learning music by ear.
RESOURCES a full music theory & reference library
Interactive scales, chords, and note maps for every instrument in the app, plus Piano
Guitar Triad Finder: every close-position triad inversion across any three adjacent strings, for any tuning
Open Chords and CAGED chart, Capo chart
Piano chord inversion finder
Position View: see a scale one hand-position at a time instead of the whole neck at once
Interval-label overlay: see scale degrees (R, b3, 5...) instead of note names
An interactive Circle of Fifths: tap any key to see its signature and diatonic chords
Diatonic chords, all-key chord tables, an interactive chord formula explorer, and common progressions that transpose live into any key, plus a progression builder
Reading sheet music: clefs, accidentals, note durations, intervals, time and key signatures, dynamics and articulation; all drawn accurately, not just described
PRIVACY
No accounts, no analytics, no ads, no network connection. The microphone is processed in real time and never saved unless you explicitly record. And even then, it stays on your device unless you choose to share the file you saved yourself outside of the app.
