Description

em is a Markdown writing app for Mac, iPad, and iPhone, built on one idea: your writing files are yours, and you're the only one who should decide what to do with 'em. WRITE 'EM WITH MARKDOWN Capture your thoughts in a distraction-free Markdown editor tuned for each device. em will count your words and reading time, but only if you want it to. FIND 'EM WITH SMART SEARCH Files scattered across folders with all kinds of titles? Smart Search finds what you mean, by keyword or meaning. Ask for "the piece about building an app" and em finds the essay you titled something else entirely. em understands what your drafts are about, not just the words in 'em. PROTECT 'EM WITH VERSION HISTORY Every edit you make is automatically versioned and backed up to iCloud. Compare and restore versions from any device. Version History saves your writing from accidentally deleting content and puts you in control of your versions. PUBLISH 'EM WITH GHOST Connect em to your Ghost-powered site and fully edit, back up, and publish natively using Markdown that maps to Ghost's native cards. em supports 19 Ghost editorial cards, plus drafts, scheduling, and newsletters. Your files can live in iCloud or Ghost and you can still do what you want with 'em. EXPLORE 'EM WITH AI (BUT ONLY IF YOU WANT TO) Ask em questions about your files and get answers grounded in what's in 'em, not what's available on the internet. On the OS 27, Siri AI can search, add, or edit notes too, in the libraries you approve. Get an Editorial Review from a prompt you can read and edit yourself — it's a document in your library that you control. em doesn't write your drafts for you, it helps you make decisions or edit 'em. ALL FEATURES - Smart Search: Full-text and on-device semantic search — type for words, hit Return for meaning - Version History: Automatic version control, safely stored in iCloud - Ghost Sites: Sync, edit, and publish to your site or send newsletters to your subscribers - AI on Your Terms: On-device Apple Intelligence by default; optionally connect Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini with your API key - Siri AI: Siri can search, add, or edit notes in the libraries you approve (requires OS 27) - Ask em: Questions answered based on your own archive - Editorial Review: AI feedback from a prompt you control and can edit, using Apple Shortcuts or a third-party LLM you choose - Apple Shortcuts: Automate em from outside the app — start an AI conversation or publish straight to Ghost - Apple Journaling Suggestions: Capture memories in Markdown using Apple's on-device suggestions (iOS only) - Read Aloud: Have your device read your draft back to you to catch errors your eyes miss - Customization: Tweak the Reader and Editor fonts and colors based on your preferences - Smart Folders: Any search, saved and always current across all of your libraries - Export: Save any Ghost post as a Markdown file, anywhere on your device - Offline Editing: Once downloaded, em works without an iCloud or Ghost connection - Even More: Printing, reading time, word counts, and yes — em dash highlighting PRIVACY, PLAINLY Your files are yours and no one can tell you what to do with 'em. em has no server. This isn't a promise about what em's developer chooses to do with your data — em has no backend to store data, no account to create, and no company database where your writing could end up. Your writing syncs through your iCloud and never touches a device you don't explicitly authorize. em's AI features are off by default and, if turned on, run on-device with Apple Intelligence. If you want a larger model, connect Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini with your own API key — your account, your billing, revocable at any time. em names the model that's answering, every time, so you are always in control of your writing. Transparency Statement: AI was used in the development of this app, but every feature idea, every design call, and every painstaking architectural decision was made by a human.
