I built Fred’s Board because looking at diagrams only gets you so far. To really memorize the neck, you need your instrument in your hands. This app acts as an interactive coach–it listens to your playing and gives you instant feedback as you work through the notes.
IT LISTENS WHILE YOU PLAY
Forget tapping buttons on a screen. Fred’s Board uses your phone's microphone to recognize the notes you pluck in real-time. The app shows you a note, you find it on your guitar or bass, and you play it. It’s the fastest way to build real muscle memory.
BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN SIGHT AND SOUND
Whether you’re a beginner or looking to improve your sight-reading, you can customize how you learn:
- Text & Staff: See the note name or its position on a musical staff.
- Ear Training: Try identifying notes by sound alone.
- Reference Pitch: Tap any note to hear exactly what it should sound like.

You don’t need to practice what you already know. Use Focus Zones to drill specific areas:
- Position Presets: Practice CAGED boxes, open positions, or the high frets.
- Custom Ranges: Pick specific strings or a fret range (like frets 5-8).
- Naturals Only: Start with the basics before adding sharps and flats.
SEE YOUR PROGRESS WITH HEAT MAPS
The app tracks every note you play to build a personal "Mastery Profile." The interactive heat map shows you exactly where your blind spots are, and the app will intelligently prioritize your weakest notes in future sessions.
GUITAR & BASS SUPPORT (LEFTY FRIENDLY!)
Whether you play a 6-string guitar or a 4-string bass, the app adapts to your gear:
