Description

VelociBar is a lightweight macOS app that lives in your menu bar and helps you answer a simple question: Am I getting the internet speed I’m paying for? VelociBar runs periodic connection tests and saves the results to a CSV file so you can review them, analyze them, or share them with your internet provider. What does VelociBar do? 1. Measures your connection’s download and upload speeds. 2. Calculates a responsiveness metric (latency / low congestion). 3. Runs tests manually (whenever you want) or automatically in the background. 4. Saves every result to a CSV file you can easily open in Excel, Numbers, or Google Sheets. 5. Shows the latest result right in the menu bar—no windows, no distractions. How does it measure speed? VelociBar combines two types of tests: 1. Apple network test: Uses the built-in networkQuality tool, designed by Apple to measure connection performance and responsiveness. 2. Custom HTTP test: Downloads a controlled-size file over HTTPS to estimate your download speed under real-world conditions. Neither test requires creating an account or sharing personal data. It only measures your connection’s performance. Built for power users VelociBar is ideal if you: - Suspect your provider isn’t delivering the speed you’re paying for. - Work from home and need objective evidence of your connection quality. - Want a long-term internet history—not just a one-off test. Privacy - Results are stored only on your Mac, in a CSV file. - The app does not send your results to any of its own servers. - No personal data, usage data, or identifiers are collected for analytics or advertising. VelociBar aims to be a simple, honest, and transparent tool for understanding the quality of your internet connection.
