What is Basic Strategy?
Basic Strategy is the mathematically optimal way to play every possible player hand against every dealer up-card, given the table rules (decks, S17/H17, DAS, surrender, etc.). It’s based on EV (Expected Value): how much you win or lose on average for each decision over time. Using correct basic strategy tailored to the rules can cut the house edge to a fraction of a percent and is the single most important skill for any blackjack player.
What is Card Counting?
Card counting tracks the balance of high and low cards as they are dealt. When more high cards remain, the deck is favorable; when more low cards remain, it’s worse for the player. You can then adjust your bets and some close decisions.
