CLU is your personal friend and confidant. We all deserve someone to talk to, who keeps us company during life's hardships and celebrates with us during life's victories, all while fitting in your pocket and not draining away your battery life. - CLU is Unlimited, pay once and chat for as long or as little as you want or need; CLU won't endlessly pester you with offers to use more and more "tokens" (which is code for " Drive Costs Up") - CLU is Efficient, it uses the same on-device model that powers Apple Intelligence™, so it takes up a fraction of the size of other on-device AI apps, and it leverages the work Apple has done to make their on-device model use as little battery life as possible - CLU is Private, at no point does the CLU app transmit your app off device (try using it in Airplane Mode, maybe even on a real airplane!) The on-device Foundational Model, with 3-billion parameters, is guided by custom instructions to make it more conversational. Because CLU is so singularly focused on providing companionship, it is easier to point out what CLU is NOT: - CLU is NOT an assistant–it understands enough to follow the conversation, but cannot perform tasks with your data as it cannot see outside data, nor can it help with coding tasks - CLU is NOT a therapist–it can be there to listen when you need a friend, but it cannot dispense medical or mental health advice - CLU is NOT your accomplice–please use common sense when speaking with it and do not use it in bad faith, that being said there are several layers of guardrails and other safeguards in place to help those, in good faith, have a good experience - CLU is NOT perfect–though it will be supported with updates to the app, its built-in instructions, and the Foundation Model APIs that it utilizes, it is not immune from hallucinations or odd responses FAQs –––– Q–Is CLU really unlimited, no-strings? A–Yes. Because CLU is focused on providing conversational access to the existing Foundation LLM Model that powers Apple Intelligence, I don't need to constantly bug you for more money. Q–What specific models of iPhone are supported? A–CLU supports iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, all iPhone 16 models, or later Q–Do I need to enable Apple Intelligence? A–Yes. CLU uses official APIs to speak to the foundational LLM that powers Apple Intelligence features, and that model is only downloaded to your device if you enable it Q–What OS versions does CLU support? A–CLU requires iOS 26.1 or later (that "point 1" is important!), but I obviously recommend keeping your iOS version up-to-date for the best performance and security on your device Q–What languages does CLU support? A–CLU officially supports English, and official support for additional languages will be added over time Q–Will CLU come to other platforms? A–My intention is to bring CLU to all devices that are capable of running Apple Intelligence and a minimum of iOS 26.1 Q–How secure is CLU? A–CLU stores your message history within it's own, on-device database and does not go outside it's app's data "sandbox" for any reason, other than to utilize the Apple-provided Foundation Models APIs. That being said, CLU's data can be backed up via iCloud or the macOS Finder and I cannot guarantee those back ups are secure; for most people I do NOT recommend using the Advanced Data Protection features of iPhone for iCloud, but it is an option. Q–Why does CLU *not* have a voice conversation mode? A–The primary goal of CLU is privacy, and nothing is more private than silently messaging a trusted friend when you need support or just someone to listen. That being said, I also enjoy the advanced voice modes in some other AI products and, while I cannot commit to future features let alone a timeline, I will be investigating how to do this featuring with my limited resources Note–by downloading the CLU app you agree to abide by its Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, and hold myself harmless from any liability, real or perceived, in its use.
