Description

Abracademic is a Safari extension for accessing scholarly articles through institutional proxies and open access sources. The extension processes URLs for academic articles. It extracts identifiers like DOIs, ISBNs, and PMIDs, then routes the URL through your configured access method. It also unwraps shortened URLs and normalises publisher URLs before processing. Supported access methods • OpenAthens — institutional single sign-on • EZProxy — library proxy (hostname rewrite or login form) • LibKey — full-text article finding • Unpaywall — open access lookup via API • Google Scholar — search by identifier • Anna's Archive — shadow library search How to use Tap the extension icon on an article page. Select your access method from the dropdown. Tap "Process current page". You can also use the context menu: tap and hold any link, then select "Access via Abracademic" to process that link directly. Configuration Open the extension settings and enter your institution's details for your preferred access method. For OpenAthens, enter your institution's domain (e.g. unisa.edu.au). For EZProxy, paste any EZProxy URL from your library. The extension will detect the format automatically. For LibKey, paste a LibKey URL to extract your library ID. Features • Configurable network timeout and redirect limits • Extracts DOIs, ISBNs, and PMIDs from article pages • Unwraps shortened URLs automatically • Normalises publisher URLs before processing • Works across iPhone, iPad, and Mac • Context menu integration for quick access Perfect for university students, academic researchers, librarians, and anyone who regularly accesses scholarly literature.
