You can now do it visually by using this tool. No hardware colorimeter required, just your eyes and your images.
Works on multiple displays, supports ICC V2 and V4. Matrix-shaper profiles can be assigned directly to display.
Allows to set the gamma table of your GPU by using VCGT tag
