DS_Store Cleaner is a simple and effective utility for Mac that removes .DS_Store files from your chosen folders and subfolders. .DS_Store files are automatically created by the Finder in nearly every folder on your Mac or on external drives. Over time, these files can accumulate, clutter up directories, cause version control conflicts (e.g., with Git), and sometimes expose metadata when you share folders with others. Simply select a folder via drag & drop or using the folder selection dialog. DS_Store ClWhen you select a folder, DS_Store Cleaner receives permission to access that folder and all its subfolders. The app performs a recursive scan, inspecting every file and subdirectory within your selection. It specifically identifies files with the exact name .DS_Store and marks only these for deletion. Deletion is performed using secure, macOS-standard system calls; all other files—including other hidden files—are ignored and left unchanged. A results list transparently displays every .DS_Store file found and removed, as well as any errors if a file could not be deleted.Your other files and all other hidden or system files remain untouched. The cleaning process is quick, transparent, and safe. Results are shown in a clear list. What are the app’s limitations – and why? For your privacy and security, DS_Store Cleaner only removes .DS_Store files from folders you explicitly select.  The app does NOT remove any other files, whether visible or hidden, and does not access locations you have not selected. Cleaning of .DS_Store files in protected system folders or other users’ directories is not possible, as these areas are restricted by macOS security and App Store guidelines. For your privacy and security, DS_Store Cleaner can only remove .DS_Store files from folders that you explicitly select. The app does not access or delete files outside these locations. It cannot clean .DS_Store files in protected system folders or other users’ directories, as these areas are strictly restricted by macOS security and App Store guidelines.
