# mDNS Browser User Guide ## Introduction mDNS Browser is a powerful utility designed to discover and explore network services on your local network using multicast DNS (mDNS) protocol. This tool is perfect for network administrators, developers, and anyone who needs to identify and inspect devices and services on their local network. ## Getting Started When you launch mDNS Browser, it automatically begins scanning your local network for available mDNS services. The application requires local network access permissions to function properly. ## Main Features ### Service Discovery - The app automatically scans for various service types including HTTP, HTTPS, SSH, FTP, AirPlay, Printers, and many more - All discovered services are displayed in the left panel of the application - Services are sorted alphabetically by name for easy navigation ### Viewing Service Details - Select any service from the left panel to view its detailed information in the right panel - Basic information includes service name, type, and domain - Network information shows IP addresses (both IPv4 and IPv6 when available) and port numbers - TXT records are displayed when available, providing additional service-specific information ### Refreshing Service List - Pull down the service list to manually refresh and discover new services - Click the refresh button in the toolbar to rescan the network - Each service type is scanned for approximately one second to ensure quick overall scanning ## Service Types mDNS Browser scans for a wide range of service types, including: - Web services (_http._tcp, _https._tcp) - File transfer services (_ssh._tcp, _sftp-ssh._tcp, _ftp._tcp) - Printing services (_printer._tcp, _ipp._tcp, _pdl-datastream._tcp) - Media services (_airplay._tcp, _spotify-connect._tcp, _googlecast._tcp, _raop._tcp) - Apple services (_device-info._tcp, _companion-link._tcp, _apple-mobdev2._tcp) - File sharing services (_smb._tcp, _afpovertcp._tcp) - And many more ## Troubleshooting - If no services appear, ensure your device is connected to a network - Check that the application has permission to access your local network - Some services may not be discoverable if they don't support mDNS advertising ## Privacy mDNS Browser only scans your local network and does not send any data to external servers. All discovery and analysis happens locally on your device. ## System Requirements - macOS 11.0 or later - Network connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) - Local network access permissions
