OT Screener

The OT Screener is a pre-referral screening tool for a students visual-motor integration skills (copying) and fine motor grasp (pencil grasp). It can be used by teachers and therapists to quickly screen their students to determine if they have met pre-writing developmental milestones, and is ideal for students in Pre-K through second grade. Information obtained from the OT Screener can be used to implement targeted pre-referral intervention for students, and may be used by teachers to determine curricular decisions. Each milestone has a dedicated page that identifies criteria for mastery. Additionally, intervention strategies are listed to help guide teachers and therapists when selecting activities to assist students in learning a particular skill. Links to printable resources are also available, and include data keeping sheets, in addition to screening forms for students to write on. *New in version 2.0.1 and later: Handwriting screener added, which utilizes OCR technology to quickly scan and analyze a student's handwriting and then provides quick analysis legibility scores to help measure a student's progress and identify potential handwriting intervention needs. The OT Screener is compatible with iOS 17 and later. The OT Screener in NOT a substitute for a standardized, validated, and norm referenced assessment tools of visual-motor integration and fine motor grasping skills. Information within this screening tool is based on available data and expert agreed upon developmental milestones for visual-motor integration and fine motor grasping skills. This tool should not be used to determine a student's offer of free and appropriate public education.
