≪오자병법≫은 지금으로부터 약 2300여 년 전 중국의 전국시대(戰國時代)때 오기(吳起)라는 사람이 저술한 병서다. 비록 ≪손자병법≫에 비하면 정교함이 떨어지고 문체(文體)도 거칠지만, 안목(眼目)이 높으며 인간 통찰(洞察)의 측면에서는 손자보다 오히려 뛰어나 일찍이 그 가치를 인정받았다. ≪울료자≫는 중국 고대 전국시대(戰國時代) 중기인 기원전 4세기경 위(魏)의 울료(尉繚)가 쓴 병서라는 것이 일반적인 학설이다.
