Description

The ATS Device Application controls the pilot worn ATS Device for training Degraded Visual Environment (DVE) induced Spatial Disorientation (SD). This enables in-aircraft training of Spatial Disorientation by creating limited visibility environments such as fog, smoke, clouds, snow, sand and dust. By degrading the visibility in the aircraft, the pilot’s brain has to receive and interpret visual, vestibular and proprioceptive information and misinformation, which is not possible in a simulator. The App communicates between the onboard Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS) and ATS power pack in order to automate the training. Automated training enables the safety pilot to remain focused outside focused on aircraft safety rather than focusing on the application during the training event. The ATS Device Application also has built in safety features, these safety features and the automated training are what make the ATS device the only training device available that meets the FAA ACT ARC recommendations for in-aircraft Spatial Disorientation (SD) training.
