The low FODMAP diet is a diet to relief IBS or irritable bowel syndrome. It is estimated that 1 in 7 worldwide suffers from IBS and the frequency is even higher in the western part of the world. Approximately 75% of people with IBS will experience symptom relief from the low FODMAP diet.

IBS is a malfunction in the bowel, where they are not able to break down certain carbohydrates. This group of carbohydrates are called FODMAPs (Fermentable Oligosaccharides Disaccharides Monosaccharides And Polyols) and by using the low FODMAP diet, you keep the intake of these carbohydrates to a minimum.

This is the only verified IBS diet and actually the only known "cure" for irritable bowel syndrome.

Almost every food contains these FODMAPs and it is impossible to keep track of, which and how much the contain, in your head.
