Hemn is a free reader for the complete poetry of Hêmin Mukriyani (1921–1986), one of the most widely read and best loved poets in modern Kurdish literature. His work is studied, quoted and sung wherever Kurdish is spoken — and Kurdish is spoken by tens of millions of people, and by a large diaspora across Europe, North America and Australia.
This app exists to keep that poetry in circulation: complete, beautifully typeset, read aloud, and free.
THE COMPLETE DIWAN
All 125 poems, organised into the poet's five collections — Dark and Light, Cry of Separation, Friends' Abode, Poems from Magazines, and Miscellaneous. Typeset in a Kurdish typeface designed for reading, with adjustable text size.
LISTEN
85 of the poems come with a recorded recitation. Stream them, or download them all in advance for listening with no connection at all. Playback continues in the background, with full lock-screen and Bluetooth controls.
A POEM EVERY DAY
A new poem on the home screen each day, chosen the same way on every device, and available with no network at all.
BUILT TO WORK OFFLINE
After the first launch the entire diwan is on your device. Reading, searching, favourites and the daily poem all work with no connection.
SEARCH THAT UNDERSTANDS KURDISH
Search by title or by line. Matching ignores diacritics and the many ways Kurdish letters can be encoded, so you find the poem you remember even when you do not remember exactly how it was written.
KEEP AND SHARE WHAT YOU LOVE
Save any poem to your favourites with one tap. Share a poem as text, or as a beautifully composed image card designed for messaging apps and social feeds.
MADE FOR READING
Light and dark themes, adjustable text size, and a quiet interface that stays out of the way of the poem.
